    chebby fuel pump

I'm sure this has been discussed in more than one thread over the years, but I'll be damned if I go searching for it...

    '97 chevy, 5.7 vortec
fuel pump replaced and still sounds like crap. it's been in less than four months and it's had 3 new filters. the pump is a carter and I hate it.

anyone had any good experience with an aftermarket pump for this model chevy? I'm looking at a venom which is about twice the price of the parts store lieftime-warranty carter. anyone have or heard any opinions on this product for any application?

at this point I'm still worried about the damn thing because it's definitely getting louder and tends to get a little hitch in the throttle if I don't replace the fuel filter every month. so I'm convinced I'll just be putting in another pump in the next six months. if I'm gonna do that it's not gonna be this o'reilly's p.o.s. again (third time).

    any thoughts?

I like my most recent Ho'Reillys Carter.
Original one lasted 124k, last one lasted 25k and sounded like crap the whole time, this one's quiet as a mouse. Must be luck of the draw. The most recent one I put in did strike me as being a more complete kit with instructions in english and a different design on the box, so maybe they've changed something recently...

do what GM did originally...put a delco in it. You ever wonder why that pile of crap you have is half the price of a delco.

    I agree.

But the original pumps in my old 98 and in our 99 have always been loud. I figured it was just a Chevy thing

the chevy pump in my scout is a little bit loud, and the one in my camaro can't be heard over the exhaust, but the fuel pump on our 8100 suburban is really f'n loud. It's a chevy thing.

My dad's 97 is loud and he has 130k on his running strong still. He does how ever have powersteering pumps fag out. And he is on the 80k intake manifold gasket replacement program.

TBI dont need as much pressure as Vortec. I'm sure that has something to do with it. On both of my old suburbans you couldnt hear the pumps but on my crewcab the pump has a very distinct whine. I'm prety sure its still the factory pump at 150k miles.

Yea, thats probably right. I remember hearing TBI takes less pressure than other types of fuel injection
